Google Business Profile
The free Google product (formerly Google My Business) that powers a business's listing in Google Search and Google Maps — including the photos, hours, posts, Q&A, and reviews shown when someone searches the business name or its category.
Definition
Google Business Profile (GBP) is what most local-business owners mean when they say 'my Google.' It's the dashboard at business.google.com where you claim your listing, verify ownership, edit your hours and services, post updates, and manage reviews. The profile is what fills the right-hand panel of search results and the pin in Google Maps. For local businesses, GBP is the single most important free property they own on the internet — more visited than their actual website in most cases. Google renamed the product from Google My Business in late 2021; both names still get used interchangeably in the wild.
Example
When someone searches 'pizza near me,' the three results on the map (the 'local pack') are all Google Business Profiles. A pizza shop with a complete, well-reviewed profile shows up; one that never claimed their listing typically doesn't. Claiming and verifying a profile takes about 15 minutes and is required before you can respond to reviews or use a Google review QR code.
